Power outages for Williamson County.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Pedernales Electric Cooperative reports power outages for Williamson County.

The current outage is affecting more than a 50 meter area.

Crews are working to restore power to neighborhoods:

  • Hwy. 195 to Florence
  • Shady oaks
  • Strickland
  • Berry Creek
  • Logan Ranch

It can sometimes take hours or even days to restore power. The PEC advises that everyone prepare in advance in case of an outage or emergency. Every home should have flashlights and batteries, which are much safer to use in a home than candles. A radio powered by batteries that has a clock is also a necessity to keep you updated with any new information. It is also helpful to keep a stash of cash handy in case ATMs are down. Large supplies of bottled water and canned food should also be stored, but don’t forget a can opener.

PEC also advises that you make advanced preparations for your house. By storing water in plastic containers in the freezer so you can preserve perishables. They say you should also check to ensure that your garage door has a manual release option. Additionally keep your vehicle with a least half a tank of gas at all times. Lastly installing a backup generator could potentially save your life. For a full check list visit the list American Red Cross made to help you prepare.
