AUSTIN (KXAN) — A portion of eastbound U.S. Highway 290 in Northeast Austin has reopened after being shut down for some time Tuesday morning when an 18-wheeler hit and killed a woman walking on an exit lane.
Police say the driver of the 18-wheeler hit the woman late Monday night as he was taking the Tuscany Way exit. They say he then crashed into a pillar.
EMS medics rushed the woman, who was in her 30s, to University of Medical Center Brackenridge, where she was pronounced dead.
The truck driver, a man in his 40s, was also taken to UMCB. He has life-threatening injuries.
