CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Authorities are trying to determine how an Austin man fell from a boat off the Texas coast and received fatal lacerations.

Coast Guard Lt. Margaret Kratz in Corpus Christi said Sunday the 31-year-old was a passenger on the chartered fishing boat when he fell into the water midday Saturday about 15 miles from Port Aransas.

A crew member aboard the boat administered first aid before a Coast Guard helicopter took the man to a hospital. He died a few hours later.

On Monday, the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office released the man’s identity as David Sotello.
