CALDWELL COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — We are working to get more information Thursday about a train derailment in Caldwell County.
The derailment happened in the town of Maxwell, which is about 35 miles southeast of the Austin area. KXAN viewer Lalo Zamora sent us some photos through our ReportIt feature.
The Union Pacific train was headed westbound through the small farming community around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday. The seven rail cars had a cargo of corn.
There is no word on what caused the derailment, but it did cause damage to the train tracks.
A Union Pacific spokesperson said repairs to the track were completed about 8:20 p.m.
