SAN ANTONIO (AP) — San Antonio officials have confiscated at least 70 birds after executing a search warrant on an apparent cockfighting breeding and training compound.
Animal Care Services confiscated the birds from a property in a residential area on the city’s west side Wednesday afternoon.
According to Animal Care Services Field Supervisor Audra Houghton, the agency was alerted about the compound within the last few weeks after a San Antonio police officer chased a burglary suspect through the property and noticed suspicious activity.
Authorities said stacked cages were found with birds of various sizes and ages, while other birds were running free in the yard.
Houghton said no arrests have been made in connection to the discovery, but an investigation by San Antonio police is ongoing.
