WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Two men are in custody in connection in the death of 33-year-old Crystal Cuellar, whose body was found in a grassy field near Interstate 35 in Jarrell on June 9. Erasmo Reyes, 41, and Juan Nuno, 29, are both in the Williamson County Jail charged with tampering with physical evidence.
According to arrest affidavits, Cuellar was dating Reyes and lived with him and his roommate, Nuno, at an apartment in the 5900 block of Nancy Drive in Austin.
During the early morning hours of June 9, Nuno told detectives he heard a noise in Reyes’ room and saw him come out of the room with a pistol in his hand, according to the affidavit. Reyes said Cuellar shot herself but because he has warrants out for his arrest and drugs in his house, he wanted to dispose of the body, the arrest document said.
Reyes, Nuno and another man — identified only as Eduardo — proceeded to wrap up the victim’s body and place it in the bed of a truck along with the mattress she was lying on at the time of her death, according to police.
Investigators say the men then drove the truck and another vehicle north on I-35 to dispose of the body. As the men were driving, one of the tire’s truck became flat near the area of Jarrell. According to Nuno, he assisted in the removal of Cuellar’s body from the truck and dumping it on the side of the frontage road and setting it on fire, according to court documents.
“She had been wrapped in a blanket with accelerant on it, and set on fire,” said Williamson County Sheriff’s Cpt. Fred Thomas.
Thomas says other arrests are expected.
