CEDAR PARK (KXAN)- A 78-year-old Alzheimer’s patient who wandered away from home was found by members of a proposed regional SWAT team on Wednesday.
A Silver Alert was issued for the woman after she left her Cypress Creek Road home around 2:30p.m. Wednesday. Cedar Park Police, Fire and Emergency Management personnel were unable to find her.
At the same time, officers from Cedar Park, Leander and Georgetown were conducting a training exercise related to the creation of a regional SWAT team. They were diverted to help search for the woman nearly three and a half hours after she went missing.
Within 35 minutes, the 15 member team combed through heavy vegetation and woods and found her camouflaged by dense brush around 6:05p.m., an estimated hour before heavy rainfall started.
“The involved officers of all three cities should be proud in knowing that their efforts have paid off and can proudly claim; one life saved, so far,” said Cedar Park Chief Sean Mannix. “We wish all the best for [her] and stand ready to answer the call when any member of our Central Texas community is in peril.”
