LEANDER, Texas (KXAN) – Some people near the 183A and US 183 intersection in Williamson County will have to start taking a detour to get to and from their neighborhoods. It is all part of a construction project by the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority to improve access and make the intersection safer.
The Mobility Authority said a portion of the US 183 and 183A intersection will be closed for at least two months as they work to complete upgrades to the intersection. The closure will help quicken the overall construction process, officials said.
In the meantime, those needing to get through the area will be directed to CR 276 to reach 183. The improvements are not tolled and are part of an almost $7 million construction project to improve navigation at the intersection and provide access to a future developments.
The overall upgrades to the intersection are expected to be completed this fall.
This construction comes as Leander experiences more unprecedented growth. A report prepared for the city estimates the Leander’s population is around 32,000, more than triple of what it was in 2000.
The city is expected to grow to nearly 37,000 in the next five years.
