AUSTIN (KXAN) – Police have charged a man with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly beat and stabbed an acquaintance in the head outside an East Austin bar May 30.
A police affidavit says Isaac Anthony Suniga, 33, was outside the Gypsy Lounge with his cousin and her boyfriend, Mark Burke, after the bar closed. The cousins got into an argument, and when Burke stepped in, a fight broke out, the affidavit states. Gypsy Lounge is located near the intersection of East Sixth and Comal streets.
Police said Suniga got on top of Burke, choked him, punched him in the face, and cut or stabbed him 10 times on the face, head and ear. Burke was told that one cut behind his ear severed an artery, according to the warrant.
Suniga allegedly cut another man on the arm that was attempting to break up the fight. He also allegedly cut his own cousin on the arm while swinging the pocket knife during the fray. Both were sent to the hospital and received stitches, the affidavit states.
Witnesses told police Suniga stood up at one point and was swinging the knife at anyone nearby, according to the warrant.
