Choppers rescues police officer stranded in Dallas floodwaters

DALLAS (CNN/KTVT) — Rescue crews in North Texas are staying busy, rescuing multiple people overnight and into Friday morning. This is video from Dallas, where a man had to be rescued from the top of his car. You can see a fire department boat came by and picked him up.

Overnight crews pulled at least five cars out of floodwaters near the city’s Trinity River Park. As this video shows, the driver of an SUV quickly realized they should not have driven in.

Drivers whose cars became stranded say they were surprised to learn how deep the water had become, and one of those helping others got trapped himself.

A Dallas police officer became trapped in floodwaters as well. You can see in the video that he was able to be lifted out by helicopter. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
