Soldiers and shelter dogs become Battle Buddies

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Rescue dogs were given a chance to be patriotic this Memorial Day weekend.

Cowboy Harley Davidson of Austin and Woof Gang Bakery teamed up Saturday to fund-raise for TADSAW: Train A Dog-Save A Warrior at the Harley Davidson dealership.

TADSAW’s goal is to train foster dogs to be Medical Alert Service Dogs for veterans and soldiers in need suffering from diseases like PTSD, all at no cost.

“With that canine battle buddy they are able to reconnect because the dog watches their back, it can alert them that somethings wrong, just like a battle buddy during a firefight,” said Bart Sherwood, a member of TADSAW.

The fundraiser included a ride, live music, vendors and a raffle. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
