GM Foundation donates $1M to Habitat for Humanity

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A $1 million gift means a dozen families will soon have a new place to call home. The General Motors Foundation announced Thursday a $1 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International. The Austin organization received $85,000 to build one new home in the Montopolis neighborhood. It will also help a veteran get his first home that is ADA accessible.

“This neighborhood is a long time in the works, and we’re really looking forward to taking the money that GM has donated and making a community right here on this street,” said Aaron Landis.

The GM Foundation has donated about $3 million to Austin’s Habitat for Humanity over the past few years. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
