Boaters keep watchful eye on rising lake levels

LAKE TRAVIS, Texas (KXAN) – With the holiday weekend approaching, lakegoers are hoping for a little more rain. More rain means higher lake levels, and more access points for people to get on the water and cool off.

“I think it’s wonderful,” Linda Morgan said of the recent rains, “I really miss the lake.”

Morgan spent Thursday fishing in Jones Brothers Park in Jonestown. She is looking forward to even wetter times, so more boat launches can open to the public. Lake Travis still needs to rise about 10 feet in this area in order for that to happen.

“I hope it can get full enough to where it used to be,” she said, “then we can have all the boats and the people and kids out splashing around an having a good time.”

The launches in Jones Brothers Park are the next to open, once levels reach 645 feet. Ramps at Tournament Point, in Pace Bend Park, and Mansfield Dam have already opened.

“I love Lake Travis and I hope it comes up really, really good so we can get back on it,” Morgan added.
