AUSTIN (KXAN) — A woman driving with two kids in her car has been charged with driving while intoxicated after police say she caused a wreck Thursday along MoPac. Police say Amy Kahle, 49, was heading south down the expressway near Far West Boulevard, about 2:45 p.m., when she hit a Jeep next to her and kept driving.
The other driver said he followed Kahle, honking at her and trying to flag her down. She exited the highway near Camp Mabry, and police were called. Kahle did not know she had been involved in a crash, a court document said.
The responding officer said Kahle slurred her speech, swayed while standing, and was confused about several things — including the time and what day it was. One of her children later told police, “Mom is drunk,” according to the affidavit. Court documents said her son also found an almost-empty 750 milliliter bottle of vodka on the floorboard.
She was booked into the Travis County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated with a child in the car, a state jail felony. Bail was set at $10,000.
