Group home sex assault suspect arrested

Erik Lee

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police arrested the caretaker Monday accused of sexually assaulting a special-needs woman at a South Austin group home nearly two years ago.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested Erik Lee, 32, at 12:30 p.m. in Manchaca, Texas.

Lee allegedly tied the hands and legs of a deaf and mentally disabled woman and sexually assaulted her at the Mayo group where she was staying July 29, 2013, according to an Austin Police Department affidavit.

When questioned by police shortly after the alleged 2013 assault, Lee, who is also deaf, maintained his innocence and consented to a DNA mouth swab. At the time, Lee told police he worked at a separate group home down the street from the Mayo home, and he visited the Mayo home for supplies. Lee also allegedly said the victim would hug him whenever they saw each other.

Forensic examiners matched DNA found in the victim with Lee’s DNA in late 2014. A warrant for Lee’s arrest arrest was issued May 7, the affidavit states.

Both Lee and the victim are deaf. Lee is charged with sexual assault, a second-degree felony. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
