VAN, Texas (AP) — Cleanup continues in an East Texas town slammed by a tornado that left two people dead and damaged dozens of buildings, including schools.

The Van Independent School District canceled classes again Tuesday. School was also called off Monday as emergency personnel surveyed the damage.

A man and a woman were killed Sunday night when the tornado hit Van, a town of 2,600 located 70 miles southeast of Dallas.

Gov. Greg Abbott has issued a disaster declaration for Van Zandt County, plus for Bosque, Clay, Denton, Eastland, Gaines and Montague  counties following storms. That clears the way for more government help.

Corsicana has received 11 inches of rain. Emergency personnel on Monday recovered the body of a 23-year-old driver, Courtney Lewis of Corsicana, who was swept away by floodwaters.
