Man charged with manslaughter in connection to friend’s death

Adan Reyes charged with manslaughter.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 32-year-old man is facing a manslaughter charge in connection to the death of a man who was found dumped in a North Austin frontyard Wednesday. Adan Reyes, who was arrested for traffic violations Wednesday night, was charged with manslaughter a few days later.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Jose Yepez-Araujo, 33, was found at 16205 Parkview Drive. A friend of Yepez-Araujo said he found Yepez-Araujo slumped over his motorcycle and carried him inside and began CPR. EMS pronounced Yepez-Araujo dead about 15 minutes later.

Yepez-Araujo lived just a few blocks away from where his body was found.

According to an arrest affidavit, a Ford F-150, —owned by Reyes — parked next to an old trailer on Parkview Drive was wrecked and the engine was still hot. Police said the vehicle had blood on the driver’s side. Reyes told detectives he wrecked his truck but the victim was not with him.

Detectives later learned Reyes and Yepez-Araujo were drinking the night of May 5 and just before 9 a.m. on May 6, Reyes called his girlfriend and “told her that Jose Araujo was dead and she needed to come and get him.”

The Medical Examiner indicated the victim’s injuries were consistent with a major car wreck and appeared to have come from the dashboard around the radio where the vehicle’s a/c controls were located.
