AUSTIN (KXAN) — It’s that time of year where boating season is expected to pick up, but state park officials want to remind you of a pesky problem known as zebra mussels. The razor-sharp mussels pose a danger to swimmers. They’re notorious for clogging up pipes and water intake valves.
To get boaters aware, the Texas Parks and Wildlife plans to launch a campaign to help prevent the spread of mussels. That’s because they can stick to boats.
Boaters are encouraged to clean and drain their boats thoroughly before moving to another body of water.
