Friend finds man dead in North Austin yard, deputies seek help

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Authorities are seeking information after a man was found dead Wednesday at a North Austin home. Williamson County deputies said they found Jose Yepez-Araujo, 33, about 9:30 a.m. inside a home at 16205 Parkview Drive. A friend of Yepez-Araujo said he found Yepez-Araujo in his front yard and carried him inside and began CPR. EMS pronounced Yepez-Araujo dead about 15 minutes later.

Yepez-Araujo’s roommate said he talked with him on Tuesday night. Jerry Terry and Yepez-Araujo lived just a few blocks away from where his body was found.

“I knew he went out with a friend and then there’s a big black hole,” said Terry. “We don’t know what happened.”

A group of more than 50 people gathered to celebrate what would have been Yepez-Araujo’s 34th birthday on Thursday, one day after he died. Terry said the friend who Yepez-Araujo went out with on Tuesday night had been taken to jail on a invalid driver license charge, but there are little answers about what happened that night.

Adan Reyes, who was arrested for traffic violations Wednesday night has also been charged with manslaughter according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department.

An autopsy report was not publicly available on Friday, but Terry said he and the family were informed Yepez-Araujo suffered a traumatic injury to his neck. A Williamson County Justice of the Peace confirmed the cause of death is listed as “Pending.”

Family has started a GoFundMe account on line for Yepez-Araujo.
