AUSTIN (KXAN) — In April, Amazon rolled out its Prime Now service in Austin to much fanfare. KXAN News put the company’s one-hour delivery service to the test and we did, indeed, receive our item in less than one hour.
In the past four weeks, Amazon says customers in Austin have really responded to the service.
“We’ve seen really high demand on daily essentials,” says Kelley Cheeseman, a spokesperson for Amazon. “Things like paper towels, bottled water, batteries, things you might run out at home and you’re like ‘I need this fast!'”
Being that Austin is a tech-oriented town, Cheeseman says computer supplies, USB ports, wireless speakers and Fitbits have also been popular. One of the most popular food items is gummy bears.
Wanted to see something delivered that isn’t on their site? There’s a feature on the app where you can suggest a product if you don’t see it on the service.
As the service continues to expand, Amazon expects to hire more people in Austin.
According to Cheeseman, there is no word on when and if Amazon Fresh — grocery delivery service — would launch in Austin.
