CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — A Burnet County inmate who tried to escape from police custody while receiving medical treatment in October 2014 will spend 50 years in prison as part of a plea deal.
Murl Lamb, 41, who is said to have ties to the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang, was taken to Cedar Park Regional Medical Center in October for evaluation following a fall that took place at the Burnet County Jail.
According to police, after Lamb was discharged from the hospital, he assaulted the officer who was escorting him back to the patrol car. During the scuffle, he took the officer’s pistol, which police say he may have used to shoot off his shackles.
After a five hour search, Lamb was found hiding behind a nearby Cinemark Movie theater.
Lamb was charged with escaping custody, taking a weapon from an officer and aggravated assault in Williamson County.
Lamb was originally arrested in Burnet County in August 2014 on charges of aggravated robbery, burglary of a building, theft of firearm and parole violation, among other charges.
