Austin City Council looking at several issues Thursday

AUSTIN (KXAN) — After last year’s Ebola health scare in North Texas, Austin City Council members want to set aside a set of funds for preparedness and response. They will vote on accepting a state grant worth close to $184,000. That money will be used for planning and critical health care.

City leaders are also looking into creating new rules for boat operators that provide tours over Lady Bird Lake and Lake Austin. The issue is over how operators dispose of waste. The city is concerned that Lady Bird Lake does not have a facility to help with waste discharge because of flooding concerns. But under state law, current practices are legal and safe.
