Power outages widespread Wednesday morning

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Thousands of people are waking up to a blackout in their homes early Wednesday morning as power outages have been widespread throughout Central Texas.

Austin Energy is reporting only eight of its customers affected. However, there are more widespread outages among the other electric companies.

Some 1,287 Bluebonnet customers are without power, and 346 of Oncor customers are in the dark. Pedernales Electric Cooperative says current outages are affecting 50 or more of its meters.

The heavy storms overnight caused some significant damage, as lightning sparked two house fires in Manor, a car got stuck in Manor creek floodwaters, three people had to be rescued in Southeastern Williamson County high waters — a woman who made the rescue call ended up trapped in high water herself — and 75 feet of roadway was washed out on Steiner Ranch Road. The heavy rains overnight also caused issues on Capitol of Texas Highway, where a rockslide near FM 2222 closed down one of the lanes several hours as crews cleaned up the mess.
