AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police believe the same man is responsible for two sex assaults that happened within the last two weeks. Authorities said the man broke into the first apartment unit at the DJ House in the 4600 block of Bennett Ave., about 11:30 p.m. on April 15. The second incident happened at the Salado at Walnut Creek Apartments in the 2100 block of East Anderson Lane about 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Shelly Hollander moved into the Salado at Walnut Creek Apartment Homes on East Anderson Lane with her two children just last month.
“I definitely don’t feel safe here and plan to move in the next couple of weeks,” she said.
Last week she says someone broke into her car and stole it. She’s even more on edge after hearing the news a person was sexually assaulted during a home invasion.
“I’ve already put in my notice and said I’m leaving,” she added. “I got my kids to think about…hearing that affirms this is not a safe place.”
Mariah Stewart lives at the DJ House and said neighbors believe the man entered the unit through a window. Property management left security tips for tenants and have left flood lights on all day and night to provide more lighting around the complex.
“It is so scary,” said Stewart. “I was hoping this was an isolated thing and this guy had never done that before.”
Police said the suspect is a black man who is 6 feet 2 inches tall. He has a thin to medium build. Authorities said they hope to release a sketch of the suspect soon.
