GEORGETOWN (KXAN) — Behind two sub-par performances from Kaitlyn Papp and Kristen Gillman, the Lake Travis girls lead the 6A UIL State Golf tournament by nine strokes after day one at Legacy Hills Golf Course.
The Westlake boys are also in contention for the 6A title, just three shots back of Southlake Carroll.
Individually, Papp, a Texas commit, shot a two-under 70, which puts her alone in second, just four shots of the lead.
Meanwhile, Gillman, who played on the LPGA tour this weekend on an excemption for winning the 2014 Junior PGA, sits in a three-way tie for third at even par. She shot a nine-over 153 in the first two rounds and failed to make the cut at the Swinging Skirts tournament in San Francisco.
Reese Ramsey was the low-scorer for Westlake, using a birdie on 18 to get to shoot a one-under 71 for the round, which puts him in a tie third, two shots off the lead.
The final day of the state tournament is Tuesday at Legacy Hills. Gillman and Papp tee off at 10:00 a.m. and 10:10 a.m., respectively. Ramsey is in the last group to tee off for the day at 1:20 p.m.
