SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — San Marcos residents are making use of their reconstructed downtown. A formal ribbon cutting Thursday evening celebrated the finished product.
The $11 million face-lift came after two years of construction on LBJ Drive between Hopkins and University Streets, and on Hutchison Street from the San Marcos River to LBJ Drive.
“What we did downtown — we widened our sidewalks; we’ve improved our landscaping; we’ve added pedestrian lighting; we’ve made drainage and other infrastructure improvements and paved the roadways — so it’s made it a much more pedestrian friendly environment,” said Laurie Moyer, director of engineering for the City of San Marcos.
The city said this was the first major overhaul of infrastructure in Downtown San Marcos in more than a century.
