After reviewing surveillance photos, police say they determined the suspect and the suspect vehicle matched the description from several other robberies along the I-35 corridor. When questioned, Cleveland admitted to detectives that he was planning to rob the IBC Bank in the same shopping center but “got scared,” according to the affidavit. Detectives say Cleveland told them he saw the woman leave with a large amount of money, so he decided to steal her purse instead.

Cleveland is currently in the Bexar County Jail facing aggravated robbery, robbery, possession of a firearm and theft — among other charges.
