City moves in and starts clean-up at Crestview home

Neighbors have complained to the City of Austin about how this front yard looks on Hardy Drive.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — After numerous complaints and a pile of citations left at the door, a homeowner in the Crestview neighborhood is being forced to clean up his act. Two weeks ago, KXAN News showed you the amount of ‘junk’ on a property on Hardy Drive.

On Monday, the City’s Code Compliance came in with trailers to get rid of the items in the homeowner’s front yard. According to Jacqueline Ballone, a spokesperson for Code Compliance said the abatement is for the outside of the property only.

In the span of two days, the abatement team filled nearly 20 trailers full of trash and debris.

“They will receive an Notice of Violation (NOV) for the interior of the property (which is filled with trash and debris similar to the outside of the property) as well as structure issues,” explained Ballone. “The owner and tenant will have time to abate it themselves (inside), but if they do not do that within the time frame allotted by the NOV, Code will again execute a search warrant to abate the interior.”

The property will be brought up for discussion at the next Building and Standards Commission meeting. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
