TxDOT says all TxTag refunds have been issued

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Department of Transportation said Monday all refunds and credits to wrongly-billed TxTag customers have been taken care of.

TxDOT has been crediting customer accounts since February, sending refund checks to people who incurred late fees over the past few years due to billing issues, and those who have TxTag stickers but also received a bill in the mail. Those people were billed twice for the same toll.

A TxDOT spokeswoman said $1.7 million has been refunded to TxTag customers. An estimated 31,000 customers were wrongly billed over the past year.

Xerox, the company awarded a $100 million contract to handle customer service and the TxTag website, has already been fined multiple times by the state for the continued issues users were experiencing.
