Sophomore forward Nekia Jones will transfer from the University of Texas following the completion of the spring semester, the school announced Friday.
“I want to thank The University of Texas family and fans for all the moments and memories we have shared here,” Jones said in a statement released by the school.
During the 2014-15 seaon, Jones only played in 18 games, missing the last 14 games of the season with a knee injury. In mid-March, Jones underwent surger to repair her knee, causing her to not travel with the team during the Longhorns’ run to the Sweet 16.
“My motto is, ‘live without regrets,’” Jones said. “I don’t regret anything. I believe everything happens for a reason.”
In her 18 games with Texas this season, Jones averaged 5.4 points and just under three rebounds.
“I consider myself fortunate to have met so many new people who have impacted my life,” Jones said. “I wish the future Longhorns nothing but the best. As my journey continues, I will always be a Longhorn for life.”
Jones also was a member of the Texas track and field team in 2015 as a thrower. She has not said where she intends to transfer.
