TAYLOR, Texas (KXAN) — Two Harker Heights men are facing capital murder charges in connection to the shooting death of Aaron Gault. Gault’s mother found the 29-year-old dead March 19 inside his Taylor home.

Police say they were able to connect Dwayne Edmond Rivens-Baker, 18, and Alex Xavier Wright, 21, to the crime after a Killeen Independent School District officer received a tip April 13 from another student.

Rivens-Baker was already in the Bell County Jail on unrelated weapons charges when police questioned him about the murder. Authorities found a .380-caliber pistol when he was arrested, the same caliber of weapon used in the murder, according to court documents.

Fingerprints collected at the crime scene matched Rivens-Baker’s, the affidavit said. The teen told police he had gone to Gault’s house to party and shot Gault after the two got into an argument. Rivens-Baker is being held on $1 million bond.

According to the affidavit, Wright told a friend he “had to go back and make sure the dude was dead.” He also faces a capital murder charge for his alleged involvement and participation in the shooting. His bond was set at $50,000.

A capital murder conviction carries the possibility of life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

This was the Williamson County town’s first homicide since 2009.
