AUSTIN (KXAN) — With spring practice wrapping up, Texas has announced the start time for their 2015 season-opener in South Bend, Ind. The Texas vs. Notre Dame game on Sept. 5 will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CST. The game will be televised on KXAN and NBC.

This is the first time Texas has played at Notre Dame since 1995 and it is their first road opener since playing Rice at NRG Stadium in Houston in 2010.

On Wednesday, Head Coach Charlie Strong said redshirt freshman Jerrod Heard has closed the gap in the battle for starting quarterback with Tyrone Swoopes. Assistant Head Coach for Offense and Quarterbacks Shawn Watson said on Thursday that Swoopes will start the spring game and that they are in no hurry to name a starting quarterback.

“I told him [Wednesday] coming off the field he’s the single most important thing that’s happened to this football team with his improvement,” Watson said, praising Heard’s progress.

Texas will play its spring scrimmage on Saturday at 1 p.m.
