AUSTIN (KXAN) — Former University of Texas and Pflugerville High School standout Nneka Enemkpali was selected in the third round of Thursday’s WNBA draft. The Seattle Storm selected Enemkpali with the 26th overall pick.
Enemkpali’s senior season was cut short after she tore a ligament in her left knee in a game against Baylor on Jan. 19. She was Texas’ leading scorer (12.4 ppg) and the Big 12’s leading rebounder (10.6 rpg) at the time of the injury.
“I was watching the draft with my family and it was a relief to see name on the selection board after a long year. Ever since high school, it has been a dream of mine to play professionally,” Enemkpali said in a statement released by the university.
She is the eighth Longhorns basketball player to get picked in the WNBA draft and the first since 2010.
The Seattle Storm begins the 2015 season June 6 against the Los Angeles Sparks.
