AUSTIN (KXAN) — Federal authorities say one of the felons who ran away from an Austin halfway home robbed a bank and tried to rob another while on the run. U.S. Marshals say Brian Whitford was arrested in San Antonio around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Police say he robbed the Compass Bank on South Congress Avenue earlier this week and tried to rob the Wells Fargo Bank on Guadalupe Street.

Those are the same two banks he robbed in 2010, which he is serving time for.

The other escapee, Larry Eggins, was arrested in north Austin on Wednesday evening. When authorities found Eggins, he tried to run away from them but officers were able to arrest him.

On Monday, we told you the men escaped the Austin Transitional Center in Del Valle. Security at the center has been questioned in the past — after other convicts escaped. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
