KYLE, Texas (KXAN) — A bat found April 4 behind a home in the 100 block of Maplewood North in Kyle has tested positive for rabies. The test results were confirmed by the Department of State Health Services.

“This time of year is when we start seeing more bat activity as the temperatures warm and there are more insects for them to eat,” said Briana Brecher, City of Kyle animal control officer. “If you see a bat, alive or dead, please stay away from it and don’t touch it.”

Anyone who may have come in contact with the bat is asked to call Kyle Animal Control at 512-268-3232, or DSHS at 253-778-6744. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
