Trooper fires gun during traffic stop near San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — Two men are still on the loose after running from a vehicle following a traffic stop along Interstate 35 south of San Marcos.

A Department of Public Safety spokesperson said a trooper fired two shots at the suspect’s truck as the men tried to flee, taking out one of the rear tires. The men then pulled into a field near York Creek Road and took off on foot. No further information about what led up to the shooting was immediately available.

Police say the two Hispanic men were last seen on foot in the area of Posey Road and Old Bastrop Highway in San Marcos. One man was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans with a cap and tennis shoes, according to police. The second suspect was wearing a dark shirt. It is not known whether the suspects are armed.

A perimeter covering four square miles was set up, but police called off the search once they believed the men had moved elsewhere. San Marcos and Hays County authorities, along with the Texas Rangers, helped DPS search for the men.

No further information about the suspects or the search was immediately available. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
