AUSTIN (KXAN) — A bicyclist was rushed to the hospital after she collided with a car in South Austin on Thursday afternoon. According to Austin police, the crash happened just after 2 p.m. in the 2100 block of South Lamar Boulevard.
Initial information indicates the vehicle hit the bicyclist, a woman in her 20s. The bicyclist was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with potentially serious injuries.
It is not clear who was at fault at this time.
The intersection where the crash happened recently received a new safety mechanism, in the form of a new hybrid beacon. The device displays a red light to drivers that stops traffic and emits an audible “WALK” indication to pedestrians, allowing them to cross the road — especially those who are visually impaired.
