Members of Texas fire department charged with sex assault

WAXAHACHIE, Texas (AP) — Volunteer firefighters south of Dallas are among six people arrested as part of a Texas Rangers investigation into a hazing incident in January at a volunteer fire department. The Texas Department of Public Safety said in a statement Tuesday that five men were charged with aggravated sexual assault while a 23-year-old woman is charged with improper photography or visual recording.

One of the men is a lieutenant with the Emergency Services District No. 6 Volunteer Fire Department in Waxahachie. Twenty-eight-year-old Alec Miller was being held Tuesday at the Ellis County jail on a $75,000 bond.

The department’s Facebook page says Miller was the 2014 officer of the year. Online jail records did not indicate an attorney for him.

The victim of the hazing later reported the matter to authorities.
