East Austin food truck shutters after generator is stolen

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A local food truck owner has fallen victim to theft and can no longer operate his business. Roger Zapata has owned and operated the Evil Wiener food truck since 2010, selling unique hot dog variations to hungry customers in East Austin. When he showed up for work on Monday, Zapata found his truck had been vandalized and the generator, which provides power to the truck, had been stolen.

“I rely on this truck for daily operation, and providing power to my truck to make a living,” said Zapata.

Zapata, a Marine Corps veteran, said his dream was to one day move his business from mobile to a permanent brick-and-mortar establishment, but must now put those dreams on hold to replace the generator.

“Needless to say, it’s soured me a bit on owning a food truck,” he added. “It all affects how you, how you feed your family.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Zapata with the cost of replacing his generator. In just 24 hours, the page has raised more than $3,000.
