Fiery two-car crash hurts 4 kids, 2 adults

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A head-on crash between two cars left six people injured along FM 973 late Saturday morning. First responders were called to the scene around 11:45 a.m.

A woman driver heading northbound was distracted by cigarette ash that she had dropped, and she crashed head-on into a 2000 Chevy, according to Trooper Robbie Barrera, Department of Public Safety spokeswoman.

Austin-Travis County EMS said four children were injured in the crash. STARFlight lifted one child to Dell Children’s Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The other children were said to have serious injuries and were also transported to DCMC.

The adult victims suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, and they were transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
