Antique show shoppers eye more than the merchandise

WARRENTON, Texas (KXAN) — Fayette County is surging this weekend with thousands of people looking for amazing antique finds. With so many visitors, someone came up with the idea of “entertaining the crowds.”

The bi-annual AntiqueWeekend is the best in show for antique collectors and their treasures; there’s something for everybody. And this weekend, something new debuted in Warrenton – male dancers. Hanna Welch and her daughter brought the American Cowboy Las Vegas Revue featuring original Chippendales members to town.

“I don’t know, just to give people in town a little something else to do,” Welch said.

Reactions to the show were mixed Saturday.

“Heck yeah I want to see the dancers!” one woman said. “Easy on the eyes, very easy on the eyes.”

“There’s a lot of people in this county who may never see anything like this again, Welch said. “But we didn’t realize it would cause this much of an uproar.”

While they acted silently, protesters got their message out loud and clear.

“Since it is Easter we want to remind people that Jesus did rise again,” protester Don Maschmeyer said. “And he rose again not just for himself, but he did for us, so that we can rise above certain fleshly activities like this.”

But the show went on. Ladies who paid to see this rare sight were also loud and clear. But to their dismay, it was the one antique show item they couldn’t take home. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
