LOCKHART, Texas (KXAN) — Dan Kimbrough, 58, is charged with trying to kill Caldwell County Sheriff’s deputies who were responding to a disturbance. Deputies responding to a domestic call between a husband and wife at a home in Lockhart on Wednesday had to dodge gunfire after they say Kimbrough started firing shots at them. The Caldwell County Sheriff Office said when deputies arrived at the home in the 1600 block of Homannville Trail around 9:30 a.m., they made contact with the woman, who was at her neighbor’s house. She told deputies her husband was having hallucinations and she was worried because they had guns in the house.
While talking to the wife, deputies heard noises coming from the suspected house and soon after, heard gunshots fired in their direction. According to the sheriff, officers had to take cover from the gunfire. While no one was injured, a bullet did hit a patrol unit. Kimbrough had a rifle and a handgun in his possession.
Deputies were able to arrest Kimbrough when he started running away from the house. He is currently in the Caldwell County Jail facing an attempted capital murder charge.
