CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — Cedar Park police and divers continue their search of a retention pond Thursday morning near Lakeline Mall, searching for a possible murder weapon. They say they want to find the gun a boyfriend may have used to kill his girlfriend in February.
Adam Solis is charged in the shooting death of his girlfriend, Katie Eager, at the couple’s apartment. Police and the Williamson County Dive Team searched the Cedar Park waters Wednesday, about 1 1/2 miles down from Lakeline Bouelvard — where Eager was killed. In mid-February, detectives were called to the apartment complex in the 2000 block of South Lakeline Boulevard, where they found Eagar shot to death.
Officials say the investigation led them to the pond as a place where they might find evidence in the connection to the case. They have searched in San Antonio and in other areas trying to find pieces of evidence that could fill in any holes in the case.
“As is the case with any investigation, even though charges have been filed, you continue to do investigative work,” said CPD Lt. Chance Thomas. “So we’re looking for any number of potential things that may be evidence in the case.”
The retention pond sits at the corner of Lakeline and Pecan Park boulevards.
Eager, 24, was found shot to death in her apartment on Feb. 17. A few days later, police arrested her 31-year-old boyfriend and charged him with murder. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
Cedar Park Police Chief Sean Mannix has called this a “rage killing” made in passion. Mannix says Solis was involved in a heated argument with Eager before shooting her in a crime of passion, something police say is evident from the number of shots fired. Mannix says Solis gave inconsistent statements after he called 911 to their apartment, and Mannix also says physical evidence ties Solis to crime. It appears Eager was trying to escape the apartment when she was shot several times, police say. Mannix says while Solis shot and killed her on a Monday night, he didn’t call police until Tuesday at noon — when he allegedly returned to the apartment to call police.
Police arrested Solis at his family’s home in San Antonio on Feb. 18.
