BURNET, Texas (KXAN) — A utility contractor working west of Burnet called authorities about 11 a.m. after finding human remains while checking power lines along Williams Road near FM 3509.

The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office said the bones appear to have been there for an extended period of time because the body was decomposed. The remains were found about 50 yards away from a home on the property.

The sheriff’s office said identification was found with the body, adding the remains belong to a middle-aged man who owned property in the county. They are waiting to notify next of kin before releasing his name.

The remains are being transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office so an autopsy can be performed. No further information was immediately available.
