Motorcyclist killed in FM 2222 crash

AUSTIN (KXAN) – One person is dead following a serious crash Monday morning in the 7600 block of FM 2222 in Austin.

Officers were called to the scene at 6:51 a.m. following a collision involving a car and a motorcycle.

Several lanes were closed as a result of the crash but were reopened shortly after 11 a.m.

Police say the motorcycle was headed East when a car turned in front of and collided with the motorcycle. The motorcycle rider, later identified as 25-year-old Jessica Nicole Getz, was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

This is the third deadly motorcycle crash in the past three days. According to Austin police, this time last year, there were three motorcycle fatalities, this year the number is currently at five.

In 2014 there were 13 motorcycle fatalities. In 2013 there were 11 motorcycle fatalities and in 2012 there were 14 motorcycle fatalities.
