Fallen volunteer firefighters remembered at the Capitol

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Volunteer firefighters who died in the line of duty were remembered at the Capitol on Wednesday morning as part of the First Responder Legislative Day.

This year, the State Firefighters and Fire Marshals Association of Texas (SFFMA) expanded the Volunteer Firefighters’ monument and added approximately 20 names. Last year, the State raised $150,000 for the expansion of the memorial.

Included in those news names are 10 of the volunteer firefighters who died in the West explosion on April 17, 2013.

Fire and EMS personnel also met with their legislators to discuss bills that would have an impact on them.
