AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police say a man in his early 20s died Wednesday morning after the convertible he was driving hit a power pole and then spun out of control. The man was heading north on North Lamar Boulevard at 45th Street when the wreck happened around 2:30 a.m. Police say the rainy weather may have played a role in the crash.

While the car landed 12 feet in front of an apartment complex, people inside the complex were not evacuated. Detectives spoke to one witness and are looking for another.

Lanes of Northbound Lamar Boulevard were closed at 45th Street for more than 4 1/2 hours, but those have since reopened.
