PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — Edwin Teodoro Torres, 44, is charged with the second-degree felony of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is accused of stabbing someone during an argument while in the line of a Wendy’s drive-thru. This happened at the Wendy’s at 1425 West Wells Branch Parkway on Saturday at 3:40 a.m.
Police say Torres became aggressive with people placing their food order in the drive-thru. Torres allegedly drove up in a black pickup and pulled up behind them — honking his horn and yelling out of his window for them to hurry up. The passenger in the front seat of the car got out, telling police he got angry with Torres. He approached Torres’ driver’s side window and began to yell at him, telling him that he might as well go find another restaurant because they weren’t moving anytime soon.
The two exchanged words, but it didn’t get physical at that point. The man walked back to the passenger side of the car he was in and leaned up against the passenger door, without getting back inside the car. He told police that’s when Torres began to pull out of the drive-thru line, pulling up alongside him. And as Torres passed, he allegedly reached out of his window and hit him in the chest. The man told police he though Torres had only punched him – running after Torres’ car as he pulled out. The man told police that Torres had already pulled out of the Wendy’s parking lot before he could catch up to Torres’ car, and that’s when he noticed his shirt was wet. The man told police that when he looked down, he realized he was bleeding, raised his shirt, and saw he had been stabbed in the center of his chest.
The Wendy’s manager told police they didn’t catch the incident on camera because they don’t have working cameras, but she told police that she did hear a commotion going on in the drive-thru — hearing someone yelling “Hurry up” and then later seeing a pickup speeding out of the parking lot.
Police say Torres later admitted to his wife and his son that he had stabbed a guy at Wendy’s, who he reportedly believed was trying to rob him. His wife let Pflugerville police search the home, and police say they found a folding knife and confiscated it.
Torres’ bail is set at $20,000.
