City turns canceled New Year’s Eve festival into 3-day spring festival

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Even though the City of Austin had to cancel the New Year’s Eve festivities due to inclement weather, the city is making it up to the community with an even bigger spring fling (sans fireworks)!

The City will host “Step into Spring” March 22, 25 and April 1 in the Mueller neighborhood. The three days will include bands, performers and hands-on activities for the children.

Many of the Step into Spring performers were originally slated to be part of the ANY one-day event.

Step 1: Mad Tiger Festival
March 22
1 to 5 p.m.
Mueller Lake Park Outdoor Amphitheater
4550 Mueller Lake Blvd.
(intersection of Aldrich Street and Simond Avenue)

Performances include:

  • 1 p.m. Riders Against The Storm
  • 2 p.m. Koo Koo Kangaroo
  • 3 p.m. Mother Falcon
  • 4 p.m. Peelander

Ongoing activities include:

  • Photo booth by Shelley Hiam
  • Interactive Mural-making Project by Allyson Lipkin

Step 2: Community Night at Thinkery
March 25
4 to 8 p.m.
Thinkery, 1830 Simond Ave.

Discover new ideas and learn together. Enjoy hands-on exhibits, educational activities and film screenings.

Ongoing activities include:

  • Austin Bike Zoo
  • Nerdy Derby with Austin Tinkering School
  • Dub Academy DJ Booth
  • Soul Session Break Dancing Demos
  • “Screen It!” with Mexic-Arte Museum
  • DJ Mahealani

Step 3: Community Night at Thinkery
April 1
4-8 p.m.
Thinkery, 1830 Simond Ave.

Discover new ideas and learn together. Enjoy hands-on exhibits, educational activities and film screenings.

Ongoing activities include:

  • Music by 18 Below
  • Franken Toy-making Station with Austin Tinkering School
  • Glow in the Dark Pendulum by Tim Ziegler
  • Psi Play interactive holograms
  • Minor Mishap Marching Band
  • Animations by Divya Srinivasan
