Girl found safe, Amber Alert canceled

Emily Lindsey and Nicholas Vega

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Amber Alert was cancelled Friday morning after 15 year old Emily Lindsey was found safe in Cameron, Texas which is in Milam County. She was found with 23-year-old Nicholas Vega who is now in custody in connection with the case.

Lindsey was reported missing Thursday by the Pearland Police Department, on the south side of Houston.  Authorities say Vega has an outstanding warrant for enticing a child.

Police did not believe Lindsey was abducted, and that she planned to leave with Vega. But authorities were concerned since she is a minor and eight years younger than Vega. Her parents reported her missing after she wasn’t at school when they came to pick her up.

An officer came across Vega standing near a bridge just outside of Cameron. He told police his car broke down and he was walking to Waco. When an officer offered to get him to a safe place, Vega said he was staying with a friend under the bridge and needed to get his things.

He returned with a young girl and a backpack, police said. After taking the two into custody, police were able to link Vega and Lindsey to the Amber Alert. Inside the backpack, police found a number of illegal weapons along with handcuffs and chains.
